This research has demonstrated that Nepotism and cronyism in the workplace, are phenomenon that are basically evaluated negatively. Qualitative study aimed at improving knowledge of nepotism and cronyism and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on these phenomena, followed by a quantitative study conducted in order to verify the information obtained in the qualitative study. Qualitative and quantitative methods have been included in the conducted research. The aim of the article is to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on growing acceptance for nepotism and cronyism in Polish enterprises. At the same time, the research presented in the article may provide a basis for further research work related to nepotism and cronyism at the times of other threats, different from the pandemic. Identifying the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the increase of nepotism and cronyism may provide a basis for organizations to assess their extent and to take possible measures to prevent their negative effects. For this reason, they constitute a problem for organization managers, ethicists and psychologists. Nepotism and cronyism are forms of favoritism towards certain people in the workplace. The study concludes with implications to mitigate nepotism and strengthen workplace commitment. Using partial least squares structural equation modeling on a two-wave (time lag) survey of a sample of 488 frontline employees in the Indian hotel industry as a case, this study proactive mitigates common method bias while revealing that psychological contract violation acts as a complementary mediator between nepotism and workplace commitment in the form of psychological attachment and turnover intention. To address this gap, this study adopts a psychological contract perspective and investigates the role of psychological contract violation as a mediator or the “why” behind the relationship between nepotism and workplace commitment, with psychological attachment and turnover intention serving as affective and behavioral representations of workplace commitment. Though the impact of nepotism on workplace commitment has been studied in its general form, the reason why nepotism produces such an impact remains understudied, especially in collectivist cultures (where family and friends are highly important) and service settings (where nepotism manifest publicly among frontline employees). This study presents empirical evidence from ASEAN region, which is useful for practitioners to abolish corruption in the context of nepotism-favouritism. ![]() ![]() This study concludes with no moderating impact of gender over the association of mindfulness and nepotism-favouritism. With change of gender, impact of workplace spirituality and its three dimensions-meaningful at work, compassion and transcendence exhibit varying influence on the nepotism-favouritism, which indicates presence of moderating effect. Four dimensions-meaningful at work, transcendence, mindfulness and compassion has significantly negative influence on nepotism/favouritism. The findings of this study suggest that there is significant negative impact of workplace spirituality on the nepotism-favouritism. SPSS and SmartPLS software were used for data analysis. This study also contributes to literature by investigating role of gender over the association of workplace spirituality, and its dimensions with nepotism-favouritism.ĭata was collected through self-administered questionnaires from employees of the service sector working in Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar. This study aims to explore the impact of workplace spirituality and its four dimensions-meaningful at work, transcendence, mindfulness and compassion over the nepotism-favouritism in ASEAN Region.
